Ration collection rules changed in West Bengal, fingerprint not required, know before going to shop.

The rationing system is undergoing changes, and it is important to be aware of the new rules. The Food Security Act (NFSA) regulates the distribution of food grains to people across the country. The rationing system has been a great help to common people, especially during the pandemic-induced lockdown.

Under the new system, fingerprint verification will no longer be required to purchase food grains using a Ration Card. Instead, a Retina Scan will be used for identification. West Bengal is the first state to introduce this new arrangement, which will be launched in five shops initially. Ration dealers will receive proper training on how to use the system. The private organization responsible for installing the machine will provide information about all the facilities available.

Retina scanning will replace the biometric method of verifying Aadhaar numbers, which was problematic for customers who faced difficulties using their fingerprints. The new system is expected to bring clarity and transparency to the food distribution process. All ration shops in the state will be brought under this system, with around 21,000 shops expected to have retina scan machines installed.

The private company responsible for installing the retina scanning machines will receive a fixed commission on the food grains. Ration dealers have emphasized the importance of technology and proper training in implementing the new system to ensure convenience for customers and transparent distribution of rations.
