"Are You Getting the Right Goods on Your Ration Card? Know the Details of How Much You'll Get on APL and BPL Cards"

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to our daily lives, and food insecurity is one of the most pressing issues affecting millions of people worldwide. To address this issue, the central and state governments in India have been providing free ration to the public during the pandemic. However, as the situation stabilizes, the state government has recently stopped providing free rations, causing concern among the public.

To address this concern, the food department has issued a notice outlining the exact amount of ration items consumers will receive based on their ration card category. With five types of ration cards issued by the food department, it's important to know which category your card belongs to, APL or BPL, and the quantity of goods you'll receive.

Here is a breakdown of the ration card categories and the quantity of goods allotted to each category:

AAY (Antyodaya Anna Yojana)

AAY is a type of BPL (Below Poverty Line) card available to the poorest sections of society. AAY cardholders will receive 21 kg of rice and 14 kg of wheat per family, free of cost. Additionally, AAY cardholders will receive 1 kg of sugar at a rate of Rs. 13.50 per kg.

PHH (Priority Household)

PHH is a category BPL card that aims to support poor people who are economically backward. PHH cardholders will receive 3 kg of rice and 2 kg of wheat per person, free of cost. In certain cases, instead of wheat, cardholders can receive flour at a rate of 1.9 kg per person.

SPHH (State Priority Household)

SPHH is another type of BPL ration card aimed at people who are not financially well-off. Similar to PHH cardholders, SPHH beneficiaries will receive the same food items as PHH cardholders, as per the instructions of the Food Department. However, in special cases, cardholders may receive 50 grams of sugar per person.

RKSY-I (State Food Security Scheme-I)

RKSY-I is a type of BPL card aimed at backward people who are not financially stable. RKSY-I is a card under the State Food Security Act, and cardholders will receive 5 kg of rice per person, free of cost.

RKSY-II (State Food Security Scheme-II)

RKSY-II is a type of APL (Above Poverty Line) card under the Rajya Khadya Suraksha Yojana. RKSY-II cardholders will receive 2 kg of rice per person, based on the instructions of the Food Department.

It's important to note that many people are unsure whether their card is APL or BPL. Knowing the category of your ration card is crucial to ensure you receive the right quantity of goods. If you're unsure about your ration card category, you can check with your local food department office.

In conclusion, the government's efforts to provide free ration during the pandemic are commendable. It's crucial to understand the ration card category and the quantity of goods allotted to ensure you receive the right amount of food. By doing so, we can all work together to ensure that no one goes hungry during these challenging times.
